The future of fashion could make a world of difference

Nina Gbor.jpg

Two Natural Ladies have an inspiring chat and get education on fashion with Nina Gbor who is now one of the Top 10 sustainable Influencers as well as top10 zero waste influencers. Nina is an Eco Stylist, Fashion Climate Activist, Speaker, Founder of Eco Styles and Clothes Swap & Style

Vicki and Jo start by finding out how Nina became interested in fashion. Nina’s mum introduced Nina as a child to 50’s films and she loved what the women were wearing. Nina created her own unique style mixing second hand and vintage with modern. This naturally created a sustainable circular fashion business.

Two Natural Ladies and Nina discuss Op shop gentrification, how some Op shops are becoming more expensive, no longer available for those who it was originally created for – the more vulnerable. Second hand clothing will become bigger than fast fashion – this has to be good? More opportunities now but people can be ostracised.

What if we systemised clothes swaps? In schools for instance as kids grow they can swap with each other, mums, babies religious groups finding ways to save money and the amount of textiles that go to landfill.

Thinking about how to use what you buy from Op Shops. Ask yourself will I wear it 30 times? Let’s fix the greater problems in the fashion industry

Jo & Vicki ask Nina about her roles as an activist? Nina educates via events, she writes articles on Eco Styles and ‘The Wardrobe Crisis – a great source for sustainable education and innovative ideas. Nina does talks in schools and in her everyday life as Nina’s own fashion is quite individual people naturally ask her about the clothes she wears

Some incredible Statistics:

·         150 billion garment are made every year yet there are only 8.7billion people on the planet. We are plundering and pillaging the earth.

·         6000 kilograms of textiles going to landfill every 10 minutes

We need legislative change– international legislation and trade agreements AND consumer activism

Mental health and Physical health go hand in hand

Two Natural Ladies discuss the issues for couples trying to get pregnant and the stress it causes when they don’t. It is hard to get pregnant when you are stressed and when you don’t get pregnant you get stressed! Vicki & Jo also discuss the dilemma for those who can’t or don’t have kids and those who do

A quickie with a great message

Navigating our hormonal systems and finding what’s right for our bodies.

Aimee Lewis.jpg

Two Natural Ladies have a very informative discussion with Aimee Lewis from Flow Naturopathy on what is ‘normal’ for women’s menstrual cycles.

Aimee’s journey started with her own issues as she took herself off ‘the pill’ after seven years. What she discovered was how much ‘the pill’ disrupts our natural hormones. It causes confusion between our brain and ovaries and stops the natural hormones. This affects so much more than reproduction.

Jo & Vicki explore with Aimee her realisation that knowledge was empowerment and control. Educating ourselves, through the knowledge of people like Aimee, helps us to work out what’s right for us. Making an informed decision about what kind of contraception to use.

Aimee is obsessed with periods and loves talking about women’s cycles

“IF YOU HAVE PAIN OR HEAVY BLEEDING, THIS IS NOT NORMAL” Aimee Lewis

Two Natural Ladies chat with Aimee about normalising discussion of periods – after all it affects half the population for the world for about half their life! AND because we don’t talk about, women don’t know what is normal or not normal.

If you feel you are not being heard find someone else. A holistic practitioner can work in with your doctor to make sure all areas are considered when dealing with issues. Vicki and Jo ask ís our modern lifestyle affecting our hormones? “Yes is the answer

Lack of Sleep; Diet eating too much processed foods; Exercise and relaxation, reduce our stress; Pollution and Chemicals affect our endocrine system and are playing havoc with our systems!

This is a must hear Podcast for all women between 15-50+ 💜

A cup full of Quinoa helps the protein go down (3min 3secs)

Two Natural Ladies chat about the health benefits of Quinoa and what foods it can substitute

Perfect-Quinoa-for-Meal-Prep-.jpg

Use instead of oats

Use as a substitute for rice

‘A cup of quinoa will also provide twice the protein and about 5 grams more fiber than the same amount of white rice. Due to this higher quantity of protein and fiber, quinoa is not only the healthier choice, but will also fill you up faster, allowing for smaller portion sizes.’ Healthyrecipes.com

Some say it is the healthiest food on the planet!

Those in the Western World have not yet learnt to use it. In South America it has been a staple food for thousands of years.

For the Two Natural Ladies it got very little interest on their Facebook page

Immersing ourselves in play (5mins 12 secs)

Is our life full of rubbish?

rubbish.jpg

Two Natural Ladies chat about the rubbish on the beach and how we can reduce this by bringing containers and taking them home rather than single use plastic. Unfortunately there will still be a need for us all to pick up a few #Letsdoit321 – on the beach, at the shops, in your street!

1 Million Women have a number of amazing initiatives as does the Zero Waste chef around reducing our rubbish. Jo & Vicki discuss some of Anne Marie’s (Zero Waste Chef) ideas around gifts – which leads on to discussion about Vicki’s garden and Jo’s friend giving plants for Christmas’s and birthdays! Ask what people need. Christmas gifts and innovative ‘Kris Kringle’ ideas– stealing each other’s presents? J  There are so many ways we can Reduce; Reuse; Recycle

The philosophy Two Natural Ladies live by ‘Do Better not Perfect’ is demonstrated with Jo’s great plastic recycling and Vicki’s wonderful worms.

“Go shopping in your pantry” Zero waste Chef Anne-Marie Bonneau

Two Natural Ladies have an inspiring chat with Anne-Marie on how to lessen the waste in our lives.

We cannot stop the fossil fuel industry but we do have control over the amount of food we waste.

8 % of emissions come from food waste in contrast to the whole of the airline industry which emits 3.5%!

The flow on effects of the amount we waste: The plastic used; the energy it took to make the food and packaging, the water, the labour and then the landfill. Greenhouse Gases 84 x more potent than Carbon Dioxide

1 in 5 bags of groceries is thrown out!

We need to

·         Plan better

·         Use imperfect produce

·         Shop in our pantry before going shopping

·         Become creative in our cooking

·         Change our thinking

·         Pickle and ferment

·         Learn new skills

Vicki and Jo discuss with Zero Waste Chef, the cost per person in the US – a whopping $1,500 per year! 40% of food thrown away with more people in need- compost if you have to but chickens are better – 1.  REDUCE 2. REUSE 3. RECYCLE

“Waste is a failure of the imagination” Douglas McMaster Zero waste chef & entrepreneur

“When we stand together that’s when we all win” Nickelback (16 mins 22 secs)

Elle Paton has a chat with Two Natural Ladies sharing her experience of Tiny Home living during Covid. Elle moved into her Tiny Home in St Kilda in March 2020 and within days was locked down. Fortunately her community garden had been created and Elle was able to link in with the local community and give away food.

Jo, Vicki and Elle discussed food security which became even more prevalent in 2020. Elle had many challenges and learnings spending many hours on her own and with her new partner in a very small space:

·         A fast track to decluttering

·         Living in a 20 square metre space – learning to ‘bond’ with the space

·         Discovering her new relationship could work in a small space in isolation

·         Grateful for her new relationship that enabled her some regular contact with someone

·         Realising just how important family and friends and the outside world is when living in a tiny home

·         Becoming really strategic and efficient

·         Exploring consumer habits and what we bring into and take out of our homes

Elle was grateful for the outside space and the ability to be part of something bigger than herself.

A great interview …Enjoy

Self-Care and Planet Care: it’s our habits that make the difference (29mins & 26sec)

Marcia Ward.jpg

Two Natural Ladies interview Marcia Ward about her passion for our planet’s wellbeing and people’s wellbeing. Vicki and Jo start by asking Marcia about B Corporations and what is the value of being certified as a B Corp? People become overwhelmed with earth care and what they can do to make a difference. When using a B corp company you are guaranteed that the organisation is following eco protocol in all areas.

A few well know B corporations include: Who Gives a Crap; Intrepid Travel; Bank Australia and Arbonne

Marcia, Jo and Vicki continue with a discussion of building healthy habits.  Looking at Mindset; Movement; Nutrition; Daily self-care; quality of relationship and community involvements. We have the power to make changes and using gratitude, meditation and breathing, help keep us feeling positive.

Random Acts of Kindness release endorphins for us and others -we will never know the difference we make

cabbage.JPG

JO shares the facts: about this leafy green, red or white  plant grown. Where was it domesticated and when? How can we eat this versatile veggie and what other veggies are included in the Brassica family?

FYI it was probably in Ancient Greece and Rome, where people began growing the plant in their gardens

Thanks to Two Natural Ladies Groupies page for these and more recipe ideas and other creative ideas:

·         Chow Mein; cabbage rolls; buttered cabbage; crunchy noodle salad; coleslaw

Vicki had the pleasure of watching a master at work when she and her house mates hired a a Chinese cook who prepared an amazing meal with cabbage – where is she now!

Science, Corporate life, Yoga and Meditation – it all comes down to Energy (24mins and 16sec approx)

Jeanette.JPG

Two Natural Ladies chat with Jeanette Peterson on her science and corporate career ad how this lead to her life as a Yoga and meditation teacher. Jeanette met a lot of stressed-out corporates and saw the correlation between science yoga and mindfulness.

Energy is the key to it all. And for some this feels like ‘woo woo’ But just like we can’t see the air or the internet, energy is real and it is the sum of all of us – in fact everything is made up of energy.

“I can’t see electricity but if I’m not careful it will kill me”

This leads to a discussion on authenticity – being ourselves. We are all unique and if we allow ourselves to be who we are it becomes effortless.

Jo & Vicki talk with Jeanette about ‘being a piece of the puzzle’. It takes a community to raise a child as we each have a piece to offer. Two Natural Ladies together make the perfect person! (LOL)

WOO WOO? -The power of Yoga and Meditation

Jeanette explains how yoga and meditation are very powerful. It can be used to connect us with our work colleagues and create an ease and flow with our work. It may have us realise we are not where we want or need to be.

Two Natural Ladies end this interesting and illuminating discussion with a focus on the next generations. Yoga and meditation can be used to support our young ones in discovering their uniqueness and embracing who they are. A not to be missed podcast

Meditating and Love create healing frequencies (3mins 46 secs approx.)

Two Natural Ladies discuss a Facebook post about a scientifically controlled study conducted by German researchers at the University of Kassel which showed the chest area of an average person emits only 20 photons of light per second whereas someone who meditates on their heart centre and sends love and light to others emits an amazing 100,000 photons per second. That is 5000 times more than the average human being. Numerous studies have also shown that when these photons are infused with a loving and healing intent, their frequency and vibration increases to the point where they can literally change matter, heal disease, and transform negative events.

Jo talks about the world wide phenomenon when everyone meditates on love and peace at the same time as well as her experience of seeing the Dali Lama in an intimate setting and meditating with him.

Vicki talks about her experience with Abraham and the profound effect it had on her.

Our heart is more than an organ that pumps blood throughout our body. It pumps the very essence of our being and is the true source of human power

We hope you enjoy this snippet into the world of our heart  💜

“Life is more fun when you play games” Roald Dahl  (13 mins 18 secs)

Two Natural Ladies share some of their book (yet to be released) on ‘Laughter and Play’

Mate and Rummikub, ‘What’s at Play’- there is actually a seriousness in playing. Vicki and Jo decide no ‘Adulting’ today and discuss how they can do this in their professional meetings. Have fun and be professional!

Two Natural ladies chat about the many advantages of smiling:

·         ‘Three smiles a day will increase your endorphins’ from Deb Pascoe’s book Vive

·         When we smile our brain releases neuropeptides that help our cells communicate and influence our brain and body.

·         “Each time you smile a little party happens in your head” Unknown

·         Smiling is humans most powerful gesture

·         When we smile people are attracted to us

Play with poetry has become an important part of Two Natural Ladies life

Volunteering can be fun and playful: when Two Natural ladies and some of their family spent time cleaning the beach together, they played, had fun and made a difference. Community and connection also create fun and laughter.

A 10 pound pom; the Lockdown blues and great live music (30mins 35 seconds)

Two Natural Ladies talk with Peter Jackson, creator of the band Jackson Combo.

He starts our interview by telling us he likes Avocado and is fully Grey (proving he’d been listening to our show leading up to his interview 😊)

We find out his colourful musical background with his dad in London at the night clubs in Soho and then his own adventures once they moved to Australia

Peter began playing in pubs at 16. Performing at night and school during the day. He shared the shock of moving from -3 degrees in London, to 48 degrees in Geelong.

Peter loves what he does and has been told he can’t be a ‘real’ musician as he has too much fun – he’s the right kind of man for the Two Natural Ladies! Peter loves to chat with his audience and Jo & Vicki and Peter discuss the importance of interaction and connection.

The Jackson Combos last live performance before lockdown was at the cancelled Grand Prix in Melbourne. They were playing to an audience ‘crying in their beers’ – not their favourite gig but certainly memorable. Vicki and Jo discuss with Peter his band members and their individual talents as well as the Two Natural Ladies becoming groupies!

As many people did, The Jackson Combo became inventive during Co-vid but unfortunately many venues that closed will never reopen. WE need to support live music. To finish the interview with Peter he shares his wonderful adventures in New Orleans and his beloved song - include here – The Congo Square.

This is a wonderful interview full of warmth, fun and laughter.

(includes song – “Congo Square” The Jackson Combo)

Avocado a fruit with alligator skin and SUPER to eat  (3 mins 47 secs)

Two Natural ladies chat about the benefits and ways to eat this delicious fruit. Their Facebook friends help with suggestions on how to eat this fruit and with what. The seeds can be composted and new trees can be grown Oh and the fruit is full of anti-oxidants and potassium – a superfood!

Imagine all the people - cutting their food waste in half ☺

"Waste is a failure of the imagination" Dan the Man

Two Natural Ladies have a very uplifting conversation with Zero Waste Chef –Anne-Marie Bonneau

Wasted food is a huge problem today and not only do we waste the energy, transport costs, water and man power in creating the food, once it is packed into landfill it creates methane gas which is 84x more potent than carbon dioxide

Each of us have the power to do something about food waste. We can’t take on the fossil fuel companies on our own but we can cut down on the food we throw out

8% of greenhouse emissions come from food waste which is more than the entire airline industry at 3.5%!

Grocery stores and farms throw out imperfect food

And more companies are now taking these imperfect foods and using them. Creating meals - in the US one company made over 1.5million meals with  discarded food.

Food waste is a non-partisan discussion - everyone agrees we should cut our food waste and at present a staggering 40% of food in the U.S.is wasted and an average of U.S. $1,500 per year wasted

Two Natural Ladies ask Anne-Marie to give us her top tip:

  • Go shopping in your fridge and cupboard first

Become more creative have more fun with what you make and if you aren’t a cook– start with soup (zero waste101)

Vicki and Jo also ask about composting? Anne Marie explained that it is certainly better than throwing it out but reducing waste is better still.

Is refusing a plastic straws a start to our reducing waste journey? Yes! It starts to open up our eyes to other things you can do

And to finish this wonderful conversation Jo & Vicki ask about fermentation. Anne-Marie educated on how to make sauerkraut and the gut health benefits. As well as Vinegar made from apple scraps

And ultimately as John Lennon says in Imagine – if we all share and be as one, life will work

Interview with Carla from Homeshare Melbourne

Carla.png

Home share Melbourne caring for people at risk of homelessness

Two Natural ladies have an inspiring conversation with Carla Raynes founder of Home Share Melbourne. This not for profit social enterprise receives no government funding and is in need of our support. There are two initiatives run by the organisation

  1. Disability Housing. With the support of NDIS Home Share Melbourne find accommodation for people with a disability who don’t want to live at home or in a shared housing situation.
This is doing very well and NDIS offer a lot of support

  2. Homeless Home Share Program: helping those at risk of homelessness, particularly young people who need a stable home environment to find work, or continue at school.

What Carla and her team find, including her identical twin sister Jenna, is the people who are placed in these homes end up with a lifelong friendship and sense of community. Something they may not have had previously

Carla shares a wonderful story about a 17 year old girl and asks us to consider opening our home to young people in need. Home Share Australia make sure the home and the young person are a right fit and there are stringent criteria on both sides. Everyone is safe and the end result is an incredible opportunity and experience for everyone involved

We know you will enjoy this interview and please consider supporting this organisation in need of rooms and donations ☺
